NYC's 400th Anniversary: It All Started Here!

Join the Guides Association of New York City in celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam. This milestone recognizes the significance of New York City to the United States and the world. We are offering a variety of historical tours of NYC, highlighting the many, many FIRSTS that all started here! 

GANYC members are offering a series of free walking tours on Saturday, October 25, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of New York City. As we celebrate 400 of firsts, we remember that tour guides are the professionals who help keep our city's history alive! 

Registration is required. Here is the list of tours:

10:15am: The Audubon Bird Mural Project

10:30am: Exploring the Upper West Side: From 116th to 103rd Streets

11am: When New York Was Nieuw Amsterdam

11am: Abraham Lincoln in New York City

11am: The Meatpacking District & The High Line

11am:  Hidden Harlem Tour

1:30pm: Public Art Walking Tour in Lower Manhattan

3pm: Exploring the Brooklyn Bridge & DUMBO: A Walk Through NYC History

4pm: Flatiron District History Tour

6pm: Night Photography Tour of the Financial District

I Want To Send A Greeting To NYC!

We invite you to participate and send your video greetings to New York City in celebration. We would love people from around the world to send a short greeting to New York City, wishing it a Happy 400th Anniversary. The videos will be posted on the GANYC Social Media entities: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube (maybe more).

General Public || Small Businesses || Travel and Tourism Professionals

 

For the General Public: 

1. Keep it short. We would love for the greetings to be between 15 and 45 seconds
2. Include your name and where you are from 
3. Send it to us at NYC400@ganyc.org
4. Include your username on Instagram, etc. so we can tag you! 
5. Include hashtags -- where are you from, interests (#sports, #pizza, etc)
6. Once it is live, feel free to share and invite others


 
 

 Businesses: 
Businesses, especially the small and family-owned, are the lifeblood of this amazing city. This is your chance to wish NYC a Happy Anniversary AND tell us about your business
 

1. Keep it short. We would love for the greetings to be between 15 to 45 seconds
2. Tell us who you are and what business you own/represent. Where are you located?
3. What makes your business special? Is it a first? Is it the only one of that type? Is it generationally owned? Does it have the best of something?

Travel and Tourism Professionals:
If you are a tour guide or involved in the tourism industry, now is your chance to send well wishes to this great city and promote your small tourism business.
